Port Hedland Passengers Board Inaugural 737 Flight Service to Bali

2 April 2015

From Saturday 4 April Port Hedland travellers to Bali will be travelling as part of a regular public flight service and on-board a larger aircraft operated by Virgin Australia.

Chairperson of Port Hedland’s Airport Committee and Town of Port Hedland Deputy Mayor Gloria Jacob expressed her delight that visitors and passengers to the airport this weekend would be the first to experience the new process surrounding international terminal operations.

“Those travelling to Denpasar from Port Hedland will be the first to board the regular public service between Port Hedland and Bali, marking a milestone in our airport redevelopment works" said Councillor Jacob.

"The improvement works at Port Hedland International Airport to facilitate the larger aircraft and additional passengers also finished ahead of schedule earlier this week allowing our Easter travellers this unique opportunity.

"I would like to thank the community for their patience and ongoing support as we continue our journey to build a bigger terminal to cater for more passengers, larger aircraft and an overall better passenger and user experience.

“The Town of Port Hedland is pleased to announce that Virgin Australia will begin operating its Boeing 737-800 aircraft on the Port Hedland - Bali route from 4 April 2015.

“The larger aircraft can accommodate 176 passengers and includes eight business class seats.

“The upgraded service will improve the customer experience and provide a more reliable service in addition to increasing the airport’s capacity for more frequent and other potential international destinations to residents of Port Hedland”.

Operational staff and management at Port Hedland International Airport acknowledge that the new service will also offer an improved customer experience for International flight services at the airport.

Additional space has been created in the terminal to allow for a quick turnaround time between arrivals and departures from Denpasar.

Passengers will notice increased space in the baggage claim area; customs processing modules have doubled and will be relocated to give more space and faster processing times; and the airside wall has been pushed out along the international and domestic lounge, giving more space in the terminal and creating a fresher façade from the outside.
